Description:
Ultra- and very low density polyethylene are linear structured polyethylenes with a density lower than 0,880g per inch. These semi-crystalline (i.e. normally 50% crystalline), whiteish and half transparent thermoplastics are soft, flexible and strong even at low temperatures. They feature excellent electric properties but a small heat resistance. ULDP is very stable to chemical substances but also has tendency towards forming stress cracks. Unmodified ULDPE has a bad resistance to UV-radiation and also a bad barrier capacity (except water).
Usage:
- container
- chemical-resistant coatings
- plastic films for packagings (transparent if thin enough)
- electric and electronic applications such as cable sheaths and wire strands for ultra-high frequency cables
