Polyester (general)

PolyesterDescription:

A general characterisation is impractical because of the wide range of possible modifications. The production of polyesters is done by linking the monomers via ester-functionalised groups: esterification of dicarboxylic acids with dioles or polyoles; transesterification of dicarboxylic-acid-diesters with dioles or polyoles; reactions of dicarboxylic-acid-dichlorides with dioles or polyoles; polycondensation of hydroxygenated carboxylic acids; lactone-polymerisation.

Usage:

Polyesters are used for resins, diluents and cross-linking components; in form of semi-finished polimerisates, they can be processed into plates, rods and tubes; in form of soluble condensates (either fluids, powders or granulates), they serve as feedstock for the production of lacquers, adhesives and fabrics. Furthermore, they are part of putties and casting resins.
