Catalysis

CatalysisDescription:

The catalysis is a chemical reaction involving the presence of a catalyst. A distinction is drawn between homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis:

  • Homogeneous catalysis means, catalyst and reactants are in the same phase (often liquid catalysis).
  • Heterogeneous catalysis means, the catalyst is in a different phase than the reactants and products. (E.g. car catalyst: gaseous combustion products become less toxic abstracted gas by reacting with a solid catalyst.)
