Silicone (SI)
Description:
SIs are very resistant to chemical substances and UV-radiation as well as highly permeable for gases. Their natural colour includes shades of white and yellow but there is a variety of constitutions containig intransparent, colored filler materials. Although they are quite weak materials at room temperature, they altogether retain their properties and performances at both lower and higher temperatures very well. (PDMS = Poly-dimethylsiloxane) See also: MQ, PMQ, PVMQ, VMQ.
Usage:
- sealings
- o-rings
- permeable membranes
- applications in automobile, aircraft and aerospace industry
