Tetrafluoroethylene-Hexafluoropropylene-Copolymer (FEP)

Tetrafluoroethylene-Hexafluoropropylene-Copolymer (FEP)Description:

Since 1988 FEP is the abbreviate form for coplymers consisting of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) and hexafluoropropylene (HFP). FEP is a thermoplastic copolymer, which is characterized by a lowered tensile strength and a very clogged surface. However it shows a good resistance to atmospheric corrosion. It is resistant to chemicals and heat. The service temperatures lies between –200°C and 200°C. Due to his excellent thermal and electrical properties this copolymer is utilised in heating cables and heating tapes. Thermoplastic of milky white color that feels like wax. Because of its special properties, this material has an unique position compared to other thermoplastics. View also: tetraflourinated ethylene (TFE).

Usage:

  • for the manufacture heating cables for chemical platoon
  • for the manufacture heating tapes
  • foils
  • in filaments and cables at communications
  • injection moulded components
  • coating for valves, tubes, vessels and tanks

The different applications depend on the molar mass and the fusion viscosity of the copolymer.
