Test sample manifacture – Sample preparation for permeation measurement

Process

From materials for which there are no test plates or films for permeation measurement, Mecadi makes the test samples itself.

Examples: adhesives, castables.

Possibilities at Mecadi:

Sample preparation of thermally or UV-curing systems
(No die casting)

What do we need?

  • Approx. 20 ml (In case of 100 % solids) per pattern (Or after prior consultation)
  • Data sheet of handling
  • Safety Data Sheets

What do we do?

  • Selection of substrate depending on the desired permeation test (preferably permeable)
  • Selection of substrate chemically compatible, non-absorbent
  • Pretest coatability (wettability, film formation)
  • Preparation of test samples
    • Thermal curing (up to 300°C), for example, chemically crosslinking or steam systems or UV-curing
    • Also handling of 1K systems including cold storage (-18°C) possible
    • 1K/2K-Systeme processible, also more complex mixtures
    • Pretreatment: mixing, outgassing, filtering possible
    • Layer thickness: according to requirements, typically > 10µm up to several millimeters
    • On carrier or carrier-free
    • Lab coat: Coating knife, spiral coating knife, screen process, dip coating, spray, etc.
    • Optical: Thin layers < 10 µm under clean room / glovebox conditions
  • Characterization
    • Inspection for defects (dye test , optical, leakage testing using gas or liquids)
    • Blanks
    • Masking

-> Use in permeation test

Materials:

  • Coatings (e.g. corrosion protection coatings)
  • On carrier film (e.g. packaging films, elastomers, fluoropolymers, polymeric films such as PVC, PET, polyolefins, PE-metallocenes, copolymers)
  • On porous carriers (membranes)
  • On inspection sheets
  • Adhesives (e.g. epoxides)
  • Coatings (e.g. nano- coatings)
  • Silicones (e.g. 1K silicones, 2K silicones)
  • Casting compound
