Description:
PTFE (also called “Teflon”) is a non-inflammable plastic that is completely insoluble and inswellable within any type of solvent. It is resistant to all chemical substances and also features an extraordinary temperature, fire and abrasion resistance as well as good weatherability, impact strength and antiadhesive properties. In contrast to that, PTFE only shows decreased strength, processibility, barrier propertie, and creep resistance. Because of its eigen-lubrication it has a very low friction coefficient. Monomer TFE is obtained by pyrolysis of chloroflourinemethane, which in its turn is synthesised out of chloroform and water-free hydrogen flouride with antimony pentachloride as catalytic agent. The corresponding polymer is a white, mainly crystalline powder.
