Description:
Determining resistance of protective clothings to permeation of sodium chloride with continuous or discontinuous contact and for determining the time lag.
Result Unit:
Permeation rate in
µg/(cm2·min) or
mg/(m2·s) or
mg/(m2·min) respetively.
(Related) Standards:
EN ISO 6529:2001
DIN EN 16523-1:2013-02 (Latest standard)
The sample is installed into a permeation cell as a barrier between the two chambers. One Chamber is flushed with the testing gas or the testing chemical. The permeated substance is absorbed (dissolved) with a suitable gathering medium and concentration is measured with an appropriate analytical method. The gathering medium flows in an open system or in a loop.
Detection limit:
Detection limits depend strongly on testing media and conditions. We will provide information in concideration of your special requirements.
Required specimen:
Samples can be made out of roll or sheet material or from complete clothings like gloves, arm protectors, aprons, caps, boots or similar objects. The samples should be representative for the material, free of defects and uniform in thickness. We determine the thickness according to DIN 53370 at your option. Testing of three independent samples each is recommended. We test samples of 20 µm – 3 mm in thickness by default, others on demand.
We prepare the samples for you, sizes differ with sample material and testing medium. Please ask for sample geometries if you want to prepare the samples by yourself. In case of sensitive coatings, it possibly makes sense to prepare the samples first and apply the coating afterwards. Please inform us if the samples tend to fail mechanically under pressure (testing media, O-ring seals).
Testing medium:
Sodium chloride.
Please contact us for your special request.
Test conditions:
Test is conducted at ambient temperature (20 – 27 °C) and pressure by default. Possible testing conditions at Mecadi: standard -50 to +150 °C, others on demand.
Feasible temperature accuracy at Mecadi better than +/-0,1 K (experience : +/-1 K results in a difference of up to 20 % in permeability of elastomeres).
Feasible pressures at Mecadi: up to 100 bar standard, others on demand.
Talk to us about special effects and requirements on the samples at high pressures.
